Michele Courage is a New Zealand-based artist known for her large, abstract, thought-provoking paintings that act as energetic portals. Her bold use of colour, movement, and light codes reflects a fearless and vibrant approach to creation. Drawing inspiration from cosmic and galactic connections, Michele channels frequencies that invite deep soul connection and inner reflection. Her work is collected for its ability to beautify spaces while transmitting uplifting, high-vibrational energy.
Artist Statement
My paintings are living portals. Energetic transmissions that speak directly to the soul. They invite you to slow down, feel, and journey inward to discover your own answers. I create intuitively, guided by a deep connection to cosmic and galactic realms, embedding each piece with light codes and vibrational frequencies. Colour, movement, and symbolism weave together to open possibilities beyond the physical world, offering glimpses into higher dimensions. My intention is to spark both beauty and transformation – uplifting the energy of any space while awakening a deeper connection to the self and the greater whole, allowing you access to your own higher self and it’s wisdom.
About Michele Courage
Michele Courage is a New Zealand–based multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of large-scale abstract painting, expanded awareness and energetic perception.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Michele grew up immersed in a creative household. Her father, John Dunn, was a respected ceramicist and potter, and her mother, Tina Dunn, a wildlife and collage artist. Art was not simply encouraged – it was a way of life.
Her early works were collected internationally before she relocated to New Zealand in 2009. It was here that her practice deepened beyond technique and form into a more conscious exploration of frequency, perception and inner transformation.
The Work
Michele’s large-scale paintings are immersive and layered, created through an intuitive yet disciplined process.
Her practice is informed by years of spiritual growth in energetic and multidimensional frameworks. Rather than depicting these influences symbolically, she integrates them subtly into the work – creating paintings that feel resonant, expansive and quietly activating. Her belief is that each painting carries the resonance and energy and exudes this energetic transfer to the viewer.
Collectors often describe a palpable presence within her pieces – works that shift the atmosphere of a space and continue to unfold long after they are installed.
Process & Transmission
For Michele, painting is both material and energetic.
Each canvas becomes a dialogue between visible form and unseen sensation. Through attentive layering and attunement, she works to stabilise the composition not only visually, but atmospherically – allowing the finished work to hold coherence and depth.
Her intention is not to persuade or impose meaning, but to create environments where reflection, clarity and remembrance can naturally arise.
This intersection of art and awareness also informs her educational work. Michele regularly speaks about her creative methodology, sharing how intuitive process and expanded perception can be integrated into both artistic and personal practice.
Collections & Studio
Michele releases her large-scale works as curated biannual collections and works directly with private collectors in New Zealand and internationally.
Select paintings are also available as collectable, signed and numbered limited edition fine art prints.
She works from The Galactic Studio at Riverstones Retreat – a rural sanctuary overlooking the Tukituki River, where she continues to explore the relationship between art, energy and human remembrance.

I have exhibited my work in group and solo exhibitions both in South Africa and New Zealand and because of my advertising background I have always done my own marketing of my work and my clients and artworks are dotted around the world.
